Marine weather discussion for Gulf of Mexico...Caribbean Sea and
southwest north Atlc S of 31n W of 55w
Upper levels...
deep layer ridge extends over the Greater Antilles and the
Lesser Antilles and over the southeast part of the Atlantic
area. Moderate southwesterlies are to the north and northwest of
the ridge over the Gulf of Mexico and the northern part of the
Atlantic area. A shortwave is over the north central Gulf of
Mexico coast and will move across the southeast United States
today and be absorbed by the westerly flow north of the area.
The ridge will contract some Wednesday and Thursday as a strong
middle latitude trough develops over the central and eastern
United States. By late Thursday ridge will be south of about 22n
and moderate westerlies will be north of 22n with strong
westerlies over the northeast Gulf of Mexico and North Florida.
Surface...
shortwave over north Gulf of Mexico coast has associated surface
low over the north central Gulf Coast. Low is weakening and
moving inland over the southeast United stated where it will
become diffuse tonight. Weak associated cold front will become
diffuse over the eastern Gulf today through Monday. Next cold
front associated with the strong middle latitude trough will
move off the Texas coast Tuesday and reach from Florida
Panhandle to Western Bay of Campeche midday Wednesday and
central Florida to Yucatan Peninsula midday Thursday. Winds will
be 20 to 25 kts behind the front and up to 30 knots in the
southwest Gulf west of this front.
Trades of 20 knots or more are confined to south of 17n east of
80w through Tuesday. Winds will be up to 25 knots in the south
central Caribbean. The winds will then weaken some Wednesday and
Thursday as the above mentioned frontal trough weakens the ridge
north of the area Wednesday and Thursday.
